Well Oct 14th is the date of my first bake sale of the season! "Well I did this 3 or 4 times last year it won't be too bad" (famous last words) I ended up having to teach all week and only had a couple of hours in the evenings to start, so one night, I took a rest, the next night we visited family and at 8:30 pm I got inspired to start making cookies, so I made a single batch of the barefoot baker's cookie recipes, I got inspired by the season to make pumpkin shaped cookies (as we all know how much I LOVE pumpkins) some stars, some snowflakes, and some maple leaves (it’s a fall/ winter themed sale). Ok so I baked them and started decorating them, of course my poor husband got roped into helping (I didn't boss him around too much, I don't think). He got to make a swirly pattern with the toothpicks, help me mix colors for the icing, made watery white icing for me. He was just was my slave (I mean assistant) Poor Eric! We got the stars done, broke about half of the snowflakes and then called it a night. The next night I still had time so I took a break again, except I baked a couple of chocolate cakes that will get crumpled into cake pops, took 10 minutes of work so that was nice to get done and be ahead of the curve (right) (well maybe). On Friday morning Eric went to work leaving me with my little 2 year old (Layla). She was generally entertained watching Finding Nemo or Dory or both for about 10 minutes at a time so I slowly got to work. I finished outlining the pumpkins, baked a super moist chocolate mini mouse cake with chocolate ganache!! mmmm Chocolate ganache!! Ohh where was I.... mmm.,,, I don't remember oh I will take a break and watch Nemo for the 100 000 time. Oh and then skype call to hubby at work, he will be home in an hour after stopping at the store mmm ok I can take another little break. Oh shoot he's almost home!! Mmm Layla lets have lunch, get lunch ready, make butter cream and chocolate buttercream icing. Have some lunch watch 4 episodes of Grey's Anatomy (just started watching it on Netflix wow) then think about getting back to work, after all it is 4 pm. Oh and I still have to make: A cookie tree Cake pops X 2 for birthday party and for sale Decorate the cake make meringues package everything organize everything for the next day. Thankfully there are no accidents and everything turns out well (right??!!) Ok well I not so much, I mix colors for mini mouse and start piping, but the face is too dark but it might be ok when the other colors are on, (right??!!) No So carefully scrape off the brown face, without messing up the other colors too much, try to lighten it, still a bit dark but will be ok right?? Well not so much but it looks cute. I practice writing happy birthday well because before my printing in icing was pretty terrible, but now it's looking good, so I write it on the board, clean out the fridge, put the cake away and smile one thing done!! Ok cake pops, crumble cake, mix in icing, mmm it’s too stiff but maybe its ok, roll them nicely put in the freezer to set, start melting chocolate, pull out leftover pumpkin pops from freezer dip in orange chocolate, let set and smile again Oh boy I need to make a cookie tree and meringues!! Ok take a breath, mix everything and start cutting out the stars for the cookie tree, bake them, mix merengue bake them for 2 hours on low. Ok crisis averted!! Amazing husband Eric is ready to help!! So we dip and decorate the pops, he assembles the tree for me, we package the cookies wrap the tree, pack the pops, let the meringues cool, pack those organize my box go to bed ready to wake up deliver the cakes set up for the sale and make some money..
